Frequently Asked Questions

Others have had these questions, maybe you have them too

What areas do you service?

Our current service area is within 60-90 minutes of the Twin Cities. For some projects we can travel further.

How often do courts need to be resurfaced?

Outdoor courts generally need to be resurfaced every 3-5 years.

This varies based on usage and weather exposure. The Minnesota climate and the seasonal freeze-thaw cycles can be demanding on courts.

Indoor Courts will generally last longer in the 6-10 year range, however, if the court sees a lot of traffic and play you may want to consider resurfacing sooner since the coating will lose sand which can affect the speed of play.

Why would I need to resurface my court?

Court resurfacing restores a court’s surface by repairing damage, applying a new coating, and refreshing lines, enhancing playability, appearance, and safety, while extending the court’s lifespan.

Here is what court resurfacing does:

Restores Playability:
Resurfacing addresses issues like cracks, blisters, and fading lines that can negatively impact the quality of play.

Improves Safety:
By repairing damage and creating a smooth, consistent surface, resurfacing reduces the risk of injuries and makes the court safer for players.

Enhances Aesthetics:
A resurfaced court looks and feels brand new, revitalizing the appearance of the court and making it more appealing.

Extends Court Lifespan:
Resurfacing is a cost-effective way to maintain a court’s quality and extend its lifespan. Regular resurfacing and crack repair helps ensure longevity and prolongs the time until a costly full court replacement is needed.

Can Improve Drainage:
Resurfacing can also address drainage issues by repairing low areas and ensuring proper water runoff. Patching and sealing existing cracks also keeps water out of the cracks reducing the likelihood of worsening damage during the freeze season.

Tailored to Specific Needs:
Resurfacing allows for customization of the court’s surface, whether it’s for a specific sport (tennis, pickleball, basketball, etc.) or to achieve a desired color pallete and playing style.

Maintenance and Repair:
The process involves cleaning the existing surface, repairing any damage (cracks, etc.), and applying new surface materials.

How much space do I need for a pickle ball court?

A standard pickleball court is 20′ x 44′, but with perimeter space for movement, there should be a minimum area of 30′ x 60′.

This includes 5 feet of space on each sideline and 8 feet beyond each baseline.
Why the extra space?
This extra space allows players to move freely and ensures a smoother playing experience.

The preferred total court size we recommend is 34 feet by 64 feet – this ensures there is a safe and comfortable area surrounding the court to return volleys.

For multi-sport courts, space requirements will depend on your intended uses (basketball, tennis, volleyball, etc.).

Basketball courts szies:

NBA Full Court: 94′ x 50′  (A Half court = 47′ x 50′)
International Court: 92′ x 49′ (28 meters by 15 meters)
Most middle school or High School Courts: 84′ x 50′

Tennis court: 78′ x 36′
For safe play, a clearance space of 21′ beyond the baselines and 12′ beyond the sides.

Remember to account for additional space around the court for safety zones and spectator areas.

How high should the ceiling be for an indoor court?

This is a great question—ceiling height is crucial for indoor sport courts, especially when you’re combining sports like pickleball, basketball, and tennis. Here’s a breakdown for each:

Recommended Ceiling Heights:
🏀 Basketball:
Minimum: 18 feet (5.5 meters)

Ideal: 22–25 feet
Why: Players need room for high-arching shots, rebounds, and lighting above the playing area.

🏓 Pickleball:
Minimum: 14 feet

Ideal: 18–20 feet
Why: Pickleball doesn’t require as much vertical space, but you still need overhead clearance for lobs and a comfortable playing experience.

🎾 Tennis (Full Court):

Minimum: 20 feet

Ideal: 30–40 feet (especially behind the baseline)
Why: Competitive tennis demands significant overhead clearance for serves and deep lobs.

So, for a Multi-Sport Indoor Court:
To accommodate all three sports comfortably, you should aim for at least 22–25 feet of ceiling height. If tennis is the main priority and it’s a full court, consider 30 feet+, especially if high-level play is expected.

Can I customize the court design or layout?

Absolutely! We have a variety of colors to choose from to create a color pallet for your court. Line striping for multiple sports, different surface types, and additional features like nets, fencing, wind breaks, lighting, and basketball hoop systems. We work with you to design a court that fits your vision and needs.

What type of surface is used?

We offer several surface options, including, post-tension concrete, reinforced concrete, and asphalt. Each has its pros and cons regarding performance, maintenance, and cost. We will help guide you to the best option for your goals and budget.

How long does installation take?

Most courts take about 4 to 8 weeks from start to finish for a new court build. This timeline depends on permitting, site prep & excavation, weather, complexity of the design, and choice of additional accessories. We’ll provide a timeline specific to your project based off of site conditions and your design.

Resurfacing projects for courts take about 1 to 2 weeks depending upon weather, and how much crack repair is needed.

Do I need a permit to build a court?

In many municipalities, yes—especially for permanent structures or large concrete slabs. Many cities in Minnesota have lot coverage restrictions (A percentage of lot area that is allowed to be hard surfaces, ie, “non-permeable”) as part of their zoning codes. We can help navigate your local permitting process and assist with documentation.

Some municipalities will allow for exceptions if other projects are added that reduce rainwater run off such as rain gardens. We can help advise you on your options for these types of projects too. All of this depends upon what city or town you are located in, so get in touch with us and we can help you navigate these issues.

What sports can I play on a sport court?

What methods of payments do you accept?

We accept cash, check, credit cards, and debit cards.

What kind of maintenance is required?

What kind of maintenance is required?

Court surfaces are designed to be durable and low-maintenance. Regular cleaning and occasional re-striping (for painted courts) will keep it looking and playing great. Tile courts may require periodic pressure washing.

Can I use my court year round?

Year-round use of an outdoor court is weather dependent. The average annual snowfall in the Twin Cities is 54″ per year, with the average date of first measurable snow (at least 1/10th inch) being November 4th.

To extend the usefulness of your court you might consider the following:

  • Adding proper drainage systems
  • Adding lighting systems for late evening or early morning use.
  • A heated slab to melt off trace amounts of snow or ice.
  • Adding covered areas to the court.

Then of course, is the consideration of building the court inside of a structure.
